Des Moines Lincoln’s softball team came out swinging in their doubleheader against Marshalltown, scoring a combined seven runs in the first innings of both games. The Railsplitters took the wins with scores of 5-2 and 10-1, thanks to their strong starts.

In the first game, Marshalltown fought back after falling behind early, closing the gap to 4-2 before ultimately running out of time. Despite a late rally in the sixth inning, the Bobcats couldn’t overcome Lincoln’s lead.

Pitcher Karsyn Price put up a solid performance for Marshalltown, but Lincoln’s CJ Risius proved to be a tough opponent, striking out 13 batters and leading her team to victory. Kylie Phillips was a standout player for Lincoln, contributing three RBIs with two doubles and a triple.

In the second game, Lincoln once again got off to a quick start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Risius hit two home runs to help secure an 8-1 lead, as the Railsplitters dominated the game.

Marshalltown’s head coach, Jason Bowers, praised his team’s competitive spirit and expressed optimism for their improvement. Despite the losses, Bowers sees progress in the team’s belief and consistency.

The Bobcats will look to bounce back in their next game against Grinnell, with a JV/varsity doubleheader scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. The team is focused on competing and giving their best effort in every pitch, aiming to continue their growth and development throughout the season.
