Reading Time: < 1 minute

Linn-Mar High School’s dynamic duo of Malcolm Rice and Garrett Bauermeister faced a tough challenge in the final of the Class 2A state doubles tournament against a formidable team from Waukee Northwest. Despite their exceptional chemistry and skill, Rice and Bauermeister ultimately fell short to the defending state champions, Kellan Croatt and Jake Nelson, in a hard-fought match.

The Linn-Mar boys’ tennis coach, Chris Wundram, praised Rice and Bauermeister as the top players on the team and highlighted their incredible run throughout the season. The duo’s determination and focus carried them to the final, where they gave it their all but were unable to overcome the strong performance of their opponents.

Rice, a senior set to play at Division-III Wisconsin-Stevens Point, expressed pride in their season and the effort they put into reaching the final. Bauermeister, a talented sophomore, echoed his sentiments and emphasized the fun they had competing together.

This runner-up finish marks the fourth time Linn-Mar has placed second in the state doubles tournament, with their last title dating back to 1997. Despite the loss, the team remains motivated and focused on the upcoming team state tournament, where they will have another chance to showcase their skills and compete as a cohesive unit.

As they regroup and prepare for the team event, Wundram emphasized the team-first mentality of his players and their dedication to representing Linn-Mar with pride. With their eyes set on the team state tournament, Rice, Bauermeister, and the rest of the team are ready to give it their all and continue their successful season.
