Bishop Ryan Lions Roar in Season Opener Doubleheader Sweep

The Bishop Ryan Lions baseball team kicked off their season in dominant fashion, sweeping Berthold in a doubleheader on Thursday. Despite not having a single senior on the roster, the Lions showcased their talent and depth in the two commanding victories.

In the first game, Jett Lundeen led the charge with a stellar pitching performance, throwing a one-hitter and striking out nine batters. Lundeen also contributed offensively with a two-run double in the first inning. The Lions’ bats were on fire, with Ramsey Walz and Macksen Shean adding back-to-back triples to fuel an explosive first inning that saw Bishop Ryan jump out to an 8-0 lead.

The offensive onslaught continued as Bishop Ryan added runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, ultimately winning the game 16-0 in five innings. Jack Passa led the Lions with three runs and two RBIs, while several other players contributed to the scoring barrage.

In the second game, Bishop Ryan picked up right where they left off, scoring 15 runs in the first inning en route to a 15-3 victory in three innings. Boden Erck, Drew Zwak, and Walz all hit triples, and Zwak finished with four RBIs to lead the offensive charge.

With the doubleheader sweep, Bishop Ryan improves to 2-0 on the season and looks poised for another successful campaign. Head coach Douglas Richter praised his team’s performance and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play outside after a challenging winter.

Next up, the Lions will face South Prairie-Max in another doubleheader, while Berthold will look to bounce back against South Prairie-Max on Monday. The future looks bright for the Bishop Ryan Lions as they aim to make a return trip to the state tournament.
