Lithuania Dismisses Belarus Claims of Attempted Aerial Strike as “Nonsense”

Belarus recently made claims that it had intercepted attempted drone strikes by Lithuania on its territory, but Lithuanian authorities have swiftly dismissed these allegations as pure fiction.

Ivan Tertel, the head of the Belarusian Committee for State Security (KGB), stated that security measures had been taken to prevent attacks by combat drones from Lithuania on objects in Minsk and its suburbs. However, he failed to provide any evidence to support these claims, instead attributing the alleged attacks to “radicals” in Lithuania and Poland.

“This is nonsense; I can’t find another word,” said Lithuanian military spokesman Gintautas Ciunis in response to the accusations. The Lithuanian crisis management centre also condemned the claims as a “hostile provocation” and an attempt to spread misinformation.

Belarus, a close ally of Russia, has been on high alert amidst the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. President Alexander Lukashenko has made bold statements about defending Belarus against any potential attacks from Ukraine or NATO countries.

While Belarus has not directly entered the Russia-Ukraine war, it has allowed Russian forces to use its territory as a launching point for military operations in Ukraine. The situation remains tense as neighboring countries closely monitor the developments in the region.
