Live updates: Escalating tensions between Iran and Israel as conflict ravages Gaza

In a recent military operation in the West Bank, five people were killed and many others were arrested by the Israeli military, according to reports from the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The operation took place in Nur al-Shams, a refugee camp in Tulkarm, in the north of the occupied West Bank.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the operation was launched to counter terrorism in the area, resulting in the elimination of several terrorists, the arrest of wanted individuals, and the discovery of explosives. This offensive is said to be one of the largest in the West Bank since October 7.

Video footage obtained by CNN showed ongoing gunfire and Israeli reinforcements moving towards the camp. Wafa reported that among the five killed, one was a child and another was 16 years old. Witnesses also claimed that the Israeli military was withholding the bodies of the victims and preventing ambulance crews from reaching them.

The military surrounded Nur al-Shams, deploying vehicles and closing off access points to the camp. Bulldozers reportedly destroyed essential infrastructure such as water and wastewater networks, causing electricity outages. Dozens of youths were also detained during the operation.

The IDF confirmed that they had eliminated terrorists, arrested wanted individuals, and uncovered explosives. Video evidence showed young men being taken away in Israeli military vehicles. The situation remains tense in the region as the aftermath of the operation unfolds.
