Live updates: Trump classified documents hearing descends into shouting match

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Former President Donald Trump made headlines once again as he ranted to the media ahead of his latest court date on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The hearing in his classified documents case turned chaotic as lawyers argued over alleged threats made to a defense attorney.

The hearing was supposed to focus on Mr. Trump’s co-defendant and valet, Walt Nauta, who was set to argue that he was unfairly charged by the office of special counsel Jack Smith. However, the proceedings quickly spiraled into a dispute over a meeting in August 2022 where prosecutor Jay Bratt allegedly tried to coerce Mr. Nauta into cooperating by threatening his chances of a judgeship nomination.

Meanwhile, in a separate trial related to hush money payments, Mr. Trump’s defense presented their first and only witness, lawyer Robert Costello. In a bizarre turn of events, the Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington DC was evacuated after vials of blood addressed to Mr. Trump were discovered.

The courtroom drama and the unsettling incident at the RNC headquarters added to the ongoing legal battles and controversies surrounding the former president. As the news of these events spread, the public’s attention was once again drawn to the tumultuous world of Donald Trump and the legal challenges he faces.
