Lively Leads Guardians to 9th Straight Victory with 5-4 Win over Angels

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Cleveland Guardians continued their winning streak with a thrilling 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday. Ben Lively led the charge with a stellar seven-inning performance, allowing just two runs while striking out five batters.

This win marks the Guardians’ ninth consecutive victory, their longest streak since their historic 22-game win streak back in 2017. The team’s impressive 36-17 record matches their best 53-game start in franchise history, a feat achieved in 1920, 1954, and 1995, all seasons that saw the team reach the World Series.

Despite a strong showing from Angels pitcher Reid Detmers, who struck out eight batters in five innings, the Guardians managed to pull ahead with a three-run sixth inning to secure the win. Matt Thaiss homered for the Angels, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Guardians’ offensive prowess.

Star player José Ramírez continued his hot streak, walking twice and driving in a run after hitting three home runs in the previous two games. The Angels made a late rally in the eighth inning, scoring two runs, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the Guardians.

The Guardians will look to extend their winning streak as they face off against the Colorado Rockies, while the Angels will regroup to take on the New York Yankees in their next game.
