Living Simply: Navigating the Social Crunch | by Shayanqureshi | May, 2024

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In today’s fast-paced world, where distractions are abundant and time seems to slip away, the quest for productivity and self-improvement has become more important than ever. Many individuals are turning to self-help and productivity books to find the tools and strategies they need to enhance their efficiency and achieve their goals. One such individual, Shayanqureshi, embarked on a journey of reading these books and watching YouTube videos on the topic, in search of the most valuable systems developed by excellent thinkers and authors.

Shayanqureshi’s exploration led him to discover a variety of systems and techniques that have transformed his approach to tasks and responsibilities. Some of these systems were deemed “essential,” while others were not. Some made his mornings feel like a “miracle,” while others simply helped him “get things done.” Through this process, Shayanqureshi distilled the essence of these systems to create his own desired system of productivity.

One of the key revelations Shayanqureshi had during his journey was the realization of the impact of social media on his productivity and well-being. While some individuals have a deep connection with social media, viewing it as an integral part of their lives, Shayanqureshi recognized that it did not hold the same importance for him. After reading “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown, he made the bold decision to delete several social media apps, including Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and Reddit. This move allowed him to break free from the distractions and time-wasting activities associated with these platforms, enabling him to focus on more meaningful pursuits.

Furthermore, inspired by Cal Newport’s book “Digital Minimalism,” Shayanqureshi adopted a new approach to using WhatsApp. Instead of allowing it to be a constant source of distraction, he treated it as an email application, checking and responding to messages only during specific time blocks. This intentional use of technology helped him regain control over his time and attention, allowing him to prioritize what truly matters.

As Shayanqureshi continues on his journey of self-improvement and productivity, he plans to share his insights and experiences through a series of articles titled “Simple Lifestyle.” This first article serves as a testament to his commitment to living a more intentional and focused life, free from unnecessary distractions and clutter.

In a world where distractions are rampant and time is a precious commodity, individuals like Shayanqureshi are paving the way for a more mindful and purposeful approach to productivity. By embracing simplicity, prioritizing what truly matters, and adopting effective systems and strategies, they are able to achieve their goals and lead more fulfilling lives. Shayanqureshi’s story is a reminder that true productivity is not about doing more, but about doing what truly matters.
