Reading Time: < 1 minute

Port Angeles’ Jake Anstett emerged as the star of the Washington Nitro Nationals Motorcycle Hillclimb, showcasing his dominance with an impressive performance over the weekend. Despite a setback from a crash two years ago that prevented him from competing in last year’s event, Anstett came back stronger than ever.

Anstett, who trains and races at Dry Creek just east of Port Angeles, secured three first-place finishes and three second-place finishes across various categories during the two-day racing event. On Saturday, he claimed victory in the premier and 450 categories, while finishing second in the 700 category. The following day, Anstett continued his winning streak by taking the top spot in the 450 category and securing second place in both the premier and 450 categories.

His remarkable performance at the Washington Nitro Nationals adds to his already impressive resume, which includes a bronze medal in the snowclimb at the X Games in 2019 and being named the 2018 North America Hillclimbers’ Association Rider of the Year.

In another sporting event, Cooper Disque of the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association showcased his talent at the USRowing Northwest Youth Championships in Lake Vancouver. Despite facing tough competition, Disque finished fifth in the B final of the under-17 men’s single category, concluding the spring season on a high note.

With the spring 2,000-meter racing season coming to a close, OPRA will now focus on recruiting new members and participating in open water and coastal events. The team’s upcoming competitions include the Rat Island Regatta in Port Townsend and the Western Canadian Beach Sprint Regatta in Victoria, B.C. OPRA welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels to join their programs and learn more at PArowing.org.
