Catholic Central Dominates OVAC Track and Field Championships

ST. CLAIRSVILLE — The OVAC Class 1A/2A track and field championships were dominated by Catholic Central this past weekend in St. Clairsville. The girls’ team took home the team championship, while the boys’ team finished as runners-up.

Mary Rohde of Catholic Central showcased her skills by winning the girls’ high jump with a jump of 4-10 and placing in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter events. The Crusaders’ 4×800 and 4×400 relay teams also secured gold medals, with standout performances from Kathryn Bolster, Carolyn Kuebler, Ella Maragos, and Jackie Okarma.

On the boys’ side, Andrew Rohde set a Class 1A/2A record by winning both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter events. Landon Grimes of the Red Knights also impressed by winning the boys’ 800-meter race.

In the Class 5A division, Big Red’s Sabria Jones stood out by winning the 100-meter dash and the long jump, coming close to breaking the school record. Jones also anchored the winning 4×200 relay team.

Weir High School put up a strong performance in the 4A division, with wins in the Shuttles, 4×800, 4×200, and 4×400 relay events. Oak Glen’s Reecelyn Craig and Buckeye Local’s Pam Kandrach had a close competition in the shot put, with Craig ultimately taking the win.

Overall, the OVAC track and field championships were filled with impressive performances and exciting moments, showcasing the talent and dedication of the student-athletes.
