The Dick Dei Track Classic held at Wheeling Park High School over the weekend showcased some impressive performances from local athletes. With over 20 teams participating, Olentangy Liberty emerged as the top team in both boys and girls competitions.
Among the standout performers was Union Local’s Johnny Sabinski, who claimed first place in both the discus and shot put events. Despite not being completely satisfied with his performance, Sabinski managed to secure victories in both events.
Buckeye Local’s Pam Kandrach also had a strong showing, winning the girls’ discus event and finishing second in the shot put. Meanwhile, Brynn McKeever and Jenna DelVecchio from Buckeye Local excelled in the sprint and hurdle events, respectively.
Wheeling Park’s Mykel Davis and Jillian Huffman stood out in the high jump events, with Davis setting a personal record of 6’10” and Huffman matching her personal best of 5’0″. The home team also had success in relay events, with the boys’ and girls’ teams finishing in the top three.
Overall, the Dick Dei Track Classic provided a platform for local athletes to showcase their talents against tough competition from across the region. With several athletes setting personal records and achieving podium finishes, it was a successful day for the Ohio Valley track and field community.
