Local athletes prepare to compete at Drake Stadium

St. Edmond Junior Mariah Myers Qualifies for Drake Relays

DES MOINES — Mariah Myers, a junior at St. Edmond, has earned a spot to compete at the prestigious Drake Relays in the discus event. Myers, who is committed to the University of Iowa for softball, will showcase her throwing skills at Drake Stadium on Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.

Myers is no stranger to competing against top talent, having traveled across the country to participate in major softball tournaments. However, this will be her first time showcasing her athletic abilities in a different sport at such a high-profile event.

Joining Myers at the Drake Relays will be the Fort Dodge boys 4×100-meter relay team, featuring talented runners from the area. The event will take place on Saturday morning, with the Fort Dodge team aiming to make a mark on the Blue Oval.

Myers earned her spot in the discus event with a throw of 123-7 at a previous meet, ranking her 27th overall and sixth in Class 1A. Excited about the opportunity to compete against the best throwers in the state, Myers expressed her gratitude for qualifying for the Drake Relays.

The event will also feature other area qualifiers, including Ashlyn Works from Humboldt, Maddie Fehr from West Bend-Mallard, and Rachel Schany from Emmetsburg. With a lineup of talented athletes set to compete, the Drake Relays promise to be an exciting showcase of athletic talent and determination.
