Reading Time: < 1 minute

After 35 years of dedicated service, Benjamin Minnick, the construction editor at DJC, is bidding adieu to the newsroom. His retirement, effective May 1, marks the end of an era for the publication.

Minnick’s journey at DJC began in 1989 when he started writing the Upcoming Projects column and other construction-related briefs. Over the years, his role expanded, and he eventually became the construction editor and later an associate editor. His in-depth knowledge of the Northwest construction industry and his exceptional writing and editing skills have made him a valuable asset to the publication.

Aside from his journalistic contributions, Minnick is also known for his photography skills and his willingness to volunteer his time judging construction industry excellence competitions. One of his favorite memories includes taking a tram ride into the downtown Seattle waterfront tunnel while it was under construction.

Reflecting on his time at DJC, Minnick expressed mixed emotions about his retirement. While he will miss the newsroom and the thrill of covering breaking stories, he is looking forward to the next chapter in his life, which he hopes will involve more travel and relaxation.

Phil Brown, DJC editor and publisher, praised Minnick for his significant contributions to the publication’s success and expressed hope that he may still write articles for them in the future. As Minnick embarks on this new chapter, his colleagues at DJC wish him well and thank him for his years of dedication and hard work.
