Local musicians, including Jimmy Buffett, featured in Hattiesburg MS mural

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hattiesburg, Mississippi, has long been a hidden gem in the world of music, with ties to some of the most influential musicians in history. From Blind Roosevelt Graves to Elvis Presley, this city has played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of rock ‘n’ roll.

Recently, Hattiesburg unveiled a stunning mural titled “Jam Session,” paying tribute to eight musicians with ties to the city. Created by Jackson-based artist Reshonda Perryman, the mural captures the essence of these legendary artists who have left an indelible mark on the music world.

Mayor Toby Barker expressed his excitement about the mural, stating that it was long overdue to honor the musicians who have roots in Hattiesburg. The mural is just the first in a series of planned installations that will celebrate the city’s rich musical heritage.

Among the featured artists on the mural are Graves, Craig Wiseman, Tom “Bones” Malone, and Mississippi Matilda. These musicians, along with many others, have helped put Hattiesburg on the map as a hub for musical talent.

With plans to add a total of 100 murals in the city, the Hattiesburg Alliance for Public Art is dedicated to showcasing the vibrant culture and history of the area through public art installations. “Jam Session” is just the beginning of what promises to be a beautiful tribute to the city’s musical legacy.
