Students from Ohio and Marshall counties are gearing up to showcase their robotics skills on the world stage at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas. Teams from Wheeling Park High School, Triadelphia and Bridge Street middle schools in Ohio County, and Sherrard Middle School in Marshall County will be competing over the weekend.
Wheeling Park is sending three teams – Iron Patriots Wagyu, Iron Patriots X-Ray, and Iron Patriots Yikes. Bridge Street’s representatives are the Buckets, while Triadelphia’s team is the Robo Raiders. Sherrard Middle School will be represented by teams named Lil’ Squirtz, the Shaft Collars, and George Drinks Water.
All these teams earned their spots in the VEX Robotics state championships held in March. This is the third time Wheeling Park has qualified teams for the world championship, and the experience has been invaluable for all the participants.
According to Ohio County Schools Innovation Director JoJo Shay, the teams have learned the importance of constantly refining their robots throughout the season. The evolution and constant learning process in robotics competitions make it a rewarding experience for the students.
Shay emphasized the value of always striving to improve and figuring out the next steps in the competition. The dedication and hard work put in by the students demonstrate their commitment to excellence in robotics. The VEX Robotics World Championship will not only test their technical skills but also their ability to adapt and innovate in a competitive environment.
