Police confirmed that video and audio evidence corroborated reports of the players being targeted with racial slurs by individuals in two lifted pickups.

The incident occurred as the team arrived at and left the Crafted Tap House, where they had dinner. Witnesses reported that the trucks revved their engines, sped by the team, and yelled racial slurs at the players, causing fear and distress among the athletes.

Authorities in Coeur d’Alene are investigating the incident, collecting surveillance video and conducting interviews with those involved. The FBI is also “involved” in the case, although they have not launched a formal investigation yet.

The Utah women’s basketball team, part of Division I of the NCAA, has been cooperating with authorities and providing support to the players. Head coach Lynne Roberts addressed the incident during a press conference, condemning racism and expressing the team’s distress over the situation.

The NCAA released a statement expressing devastation over the incident and reaffirming their commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for student-athletes. The league emphasized its stance against racism and hatred in any form.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information about the silver car seen in the area at the time of the incident to come forward. The community and the basketball team are hoping for justice and accountability in the face of this troubling incident.
