Lock Haven Women’s Basketball Team Makes History with Spectacular Season
LOCK HAVEN — The Lock Haven Women’s basketball team has had a season for the ages, achieving heights of success that no Bald Eagle basketball fan has ever witnessed. Head coach Jennifer Smith and her squad dominated the PSAC with a remarkable 29-4 record, securing a spot in both the PSAC Championship and NCAA Division II tournament. The season included a 19-game win streak, a perfect home record, a national ranking, and the No. 1 seed in the PSAC East.
Coach Smith attributed the team’s success to their consistency, focus, and determination. Despite being picked to finish sixth in the East at the start of the season, the team used that as motivation to prove the doubters wrong. The Eagles started the year on fire, winning 19 consecutive games before eventually falling to West Chester.
Lock Haven’s run in the PSAC playoffs was impressive, with a notable win over Cal in the semifinals. Although they fell short in the PSAC Championship against Gannon, the team quickly shifted their focus to the NCAA Tournament. In a rematch against Cal, Lock Haven emerged victorious, but their journey ended with a loss to Gannon.
Sophomores Alana Robinson and Jenadia Jordan were standout players, leading the team on both ends of the court. With key players returning next season, the expectations are high for Lock Haven to continue their success. Coach Smith acknowledged the challenges ahead but remains optimistic about the team’s future.
The Lock Haven Women’s basketball team’s remarkable season has not only made history for the program but has also garnered attention for women’s basketball as a whole. With their hard work, dedication, and passion for the game, the Bald Eagles have set a new standard of excellence that will inspire future generations of female athletes.
