Wolfe, the founder of Waves of Caring, a handcrafted skincare business, found relief when she discovered Lo’Kel-Li Vendor Market at the Poughkeepsie Galleria. The market, founded by three women, offers space for up to 50 small businesses in its two storefronts, charging a flat fee to cover rent and utilities.

According to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), New York ranks poorly in terms of property taxes and individual income tax, making it challenging for small businesses to thrive. The NFIB also reported a decrease in small business optimism due to inflation concerns.

Despite these challenges, the vendors at Lo’Kel-Li Vendor Market have found a supportive community that allows them to keep 100% of their commission and operate on their own terms. Co-founder Lorraine Perez and her team even volunteer to help sell products for vendors when needed.

“It’s all local businesses. It’s a network of people who help each other, and it’s a place where you can send your customers,” Wolfe expressed, highlighting the collaborative spirit of the market.
