London, Ont. to construct two new elementary schools

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Ministry of Education has given the green light for the construction of two new elementary schools in London, with a whopping $55.3 million in funding allocated to the Thames Valley District School Board. These schools will be located in west and southeast London, aiming to address the growing population’s educational needs.

This announcement follows a recent funding approval by Education Minister Stephen Lecce for two other schools in the region, emphasizing the importance of providing access to licensed childcare. The Chair of the TVDSB, Beth Mai, expressed gratitude for the streamlined approval process, highlighting the collaborative effort between various stakeholders to meet the community’s needs.

Scheduled for completion by the 2026/2027 school year, the west London school will cost $27.1 million and accommodate 525 students, while the southeast London location will cost $28.2 million and cater to 655 students. Both schools will also feature a five-room childcare center, adding 176 new childcare spaces in the city.

Mark Fisher, the Director of Education for TVDSB, emphasized the significance of these projects in supporting the rapidly growing student population in Thames Valley. With over 11,000 students expected to benefit from these new facilities, the investment in state-of-the-art schools reflects the government’s commitment to providing quality education close to home. As London continues to expand, these new schools will play a vital role in meeting the educational needs of the community.
