Longmeadow girls tennis continues its winning streak with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Westborough on Friday. The match was a nail-biter, with both teams pushing each other to the limit.
Marly Ducharme and Ellen Kennedy set the tone for Longmeadow with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win in the second doubles match. However, Lia Manoussoff and Grace Taylor couldn’t replicate their success, losing in the first doubles shortly after.
The singles matches were equally intense, with Sarah Tiru coming back from a first-set loss to win the second and third sets, each with a score of 6-4. Bailey Downes fought valiantly in the third singles match, but ultimately fell short in the third set.
The fate of the match came down to Sophie Dove in the second singles match. After splitting the first two sets, Dove outlasted her opponent in a tense third set, securing the victory for Longmeadow.
With this win, Longmeadow maintains its undefeated record at 11-0 and will face Ludlow next at home on Monday.
In boys tennis, Pioneer Valley Christian Academy continued its winning streak with a 4-1 victory over Lee. The team’s strong performances in doubles and singles matches secured their seventh win in a row. PVCA will look to extend their streak against Westfield on Monday.
