Los Osos Boys Tennis Team Advances to CIF-SS Division 1 Quarterfinals
RANCHO CUCAMONGA — The Los Osos boys tennis team proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Last year, they made it to the quarterfinals, and this year, they are on track to go even further.
In a thrilling second-round match on Friday, the Grizzlies defeated Edison 12-6 at Los Osos High School. With this victory, the Baseline League champion Grizzlies (14-2) have secured a spot in the quarterfinals where they will face off against second-seeded JSerra on Monday.
Coach Gilbert Delgadillo expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “Personally, my goal is always to best and improve on what we did last year. At the same time, (we’re) building a program and trying to get our name out there.”
The Grizzlies took an early lead after the first round and solidified their dominance with a strong second round, which included two crucial tiebreak wins. Junior Ethan Lee, the three-time Baseline League singles champion, led the team with a flawless performance, winning all three of his sets at No. 1 singles.
With a lineup of talented players, many of whom were part of last year’s quarterfinalist team, the expectations were high for Los Osos this season. Despite having only one senior in the lineup, the team is poised for a deep run in the playoffs.
As they gear up for the next round of competition, the Grizzlies are determined to continue their winning streak and make a lasting impact in the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.
