Louisville Police to Investigate Officers Involved in Golfer Scottie Scheffler’s Arrest

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced on Tuesday that the Louisville Metro Police Department will be conducting an investigation into the officers who arrested professional golfer Scottie Scheffler. The investigation aims to determine if the officers followed proper protocols during the arrest.

The arrest took place before the second round of the PGA Championship on Friday at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. According to a police arrest citation, Scheffler allegedly failed to comply with officers’ commands to stop his vehicle, resulting in an altercation where an officer was dragged to the ground.

While there is no body-camera footage of the incident, Mayor Greenberg stated that video footage from a pole camera across the street from the golf course will be released soon. The mayor declined to provide details about the footage.

Scheffler, who spent less than 2 hours in jail, was released in time to make his tee time for the tournament and went on to finish tied for eighth place. The golfer has described the arrest as a “big misunderstanding.”

Scheffler is facing multiple charges, including a second-degree felony charge of assault of a police officer, as well as misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals. His arraignment, initially scheduled for Tuesday, has been rescheduled for June 3.

Despite the legal issues, Scheffler is set to compete in the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas, from Thursday to Sunday. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
