Auburn Men’s Tennis Falls to LSU in SEC Championship Quarterfinals

BATON ROUGE, La. – In a thrilling quarterfinal match at the SEC Championship, the No. 21 Auburn men’s tennis team fell to LSU by a narrow 4-3 margin on Friday evening at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Tigers started strong by winning the doubles point, but LSU fought back to secure the victory in a close contest.

Auburn’s Will Nolan and Tyler Stice set the tone in doubles play, securing a 6-3 victory over their opponents. Billy Blaydes and Nicholas Heng followed suit with another doubles win, giving Auburn the early lead in the match.

Moving on to singles play, Auburn continued their strong performance by winning three opening sets. Finn Murgett, Alejandro Moreno, and Billy Blaydes each claimed victories in their respective matches, putting Auburn ahead 3-1.

However, LSU mounted a comeback, winning two matches in three sets to tie the score at 3-3. The deciding match came down to court one and court five, both of which went to a third set.

In the end, LSU emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over Auburn, ending the Tigers’ run at the SEC Championship. Despite the loss, Auburn’s overall record stands at 17-10, and they will now await their seeding and site for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers will learn their fate during a selection show on April 29, with the NCAA Tournament scheduled to begin in early May. Auburn will look to regroup and make a strong showing in the national tournament after a hard-fought battle in the SEC Championship.
