Lucknow Super Giants coach Justin Langer confirms Mayank Yadav’s IPL 2024 season is in jeopardy

Mayank Yadav, the rising star of the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, may have to sit out the rest of the IPL 2024 season due to a lower abdominal tear, according to head coach Justin Langer. The young pacer, known for consistently bowling at speeds exceeding 150kph, had caught the attention of fans and selectors alike with his impressive performances earlier in the season.

Langer expressed hope that Yadav might still be able to make a comeback for the playoffs, but acknowledged the challenges of recovering in time for the latter stages of the tournament. The 22-year-old had made a significant impact in the four matches he played, taking seven wickets, before being sidelined by the injury.

Unfortunately, Yadav faced setbacks in his return to the field after initially getting injured against the Gujarat Titans. Despite undergoing a month-long rehabilitation process, he had to leave the game prematurely once again, this time against the Mumbai Indians, after bowling 3.1 overs.

Langer revealed that Yadav had sustained a tear in the same area where he was previously injured, emphasizing the challenges that young fast bowlers often face in their careers. He mentioned a conversation between Yadav and Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, where Bumrah reassured the young talent about the inevitable injuries that come with being a fast bowler.

Despite the setback, Langer highlighted Yadav’s immense potential and expressed optimism about his future in the sport. As fans eagerly await updates on Yadav’s recovery, his absence from the remainder of the IPL 2024 season serves as a reminder of the physical demands and risks that come with being a fast bowler in the competitive world of cricket.
