Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are set to revolutionize the world of golf with the launch of the TGL (Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy-backed simulator league) in January 2025. The league aims to bring golf to a new audience by introducing a unique format where players compete on teams over 15 holes on an oversized simulator.
The latest golfers to join TGL are Ludvig Åberg and Wyndham Clark, who were announced on Monday. Åberg, the Swedish world No 6, had to withdraw from the Wells Fargo Championship due to a knee issue, but he is excited to be part of this new venture.
The league will feature 24 PGA Tour players divided into six four-man teams, with each team representing a different location. Tiger Woods has confirmed his participation as both a player and owner for the Jupiter Links Golf Club team based in Florida.
Other notable players in the league include US Open champion Clark, Ireland’s Shane Lowry, and Australia’s Min Woo Lee, who will be part of the California-based Bay Golf Club team.
The TGL was initially scheduled to launch in 2024 but was delayed to 2025 due to damage sustained at the tournament venue in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The league’s first three matches will take place in January 2025, with the full schedule to be announced later.
With a unique format combining an oversized simulator with actual shots to a tech-infused green, TGL promises to bring a fresh and exciting experience to the world of golf. Stay tuned for more updates on this groundbreaking league.
