Lufthansa’s Airbus A380s are here to stay, as the airline plans to reintroduce all eight of its A380s by 2025, following a strong recovery in transatlantic leisure demand. The decision to bring back these super jumbos comes after initially grounding them at the start of the pandemic with the intention of retiring them.
In a surprising move, Lufthansa has announced plans to introduce a new business class product on its A380s by the second half of 2025. While first class, premium economy, and economy cabins will remain the same with minor upgrades, business class will see a complete overhaul.
The airline’s management has emphasized the reliability of the A380s for long-haul flights and the comfort they provide to passengers. Despite facing delays with its new Allegris cabins, Lufthansa has decided to opt for a different business class product for its A380s.
Thompson Aero Vantage XL seats are set to be installed on the A380s, a decision made due to delays with the Allegris seats. This off-the-shelf product has already been certified for the A380 and is currently used by airlines like Qantas.
Previously, there were talks of Lufthansa selecting the Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seat for its A380s, similar to what is found on its Boeing 787 fleet. However, the airline has now settled on the Thompson Aero Vantage XL seats for its A380s.
With plans to keep the A380s in its fleet for the long term, Lufthansa’s new business class product is set to enhance the flying experience for passengers on these iconic aircraft.
