Magna Vista boys tennis clinches PD championship; PD tournaments kick off with team matches

The Magna Vista boys tennis team clinched the Piedmont District championship title for the second consecutive season after defeating Bassett 5-3 in the tournament finals on Monday. The Warriors, who were the No. 1 seed in the tournament, showcased their dominance on the court with impressive performances from Luke Gardner, Landon Hall, Chandler Craig, and Cole Tatum, who all secured singles wins.

With this victory, Magna Vista remains undefeated this season with a perfect 16-0 record. Both the Warriors and the Bengals (9-9) will now turn their focus to the upcoming Region 3D tournament, set to kick off on May 18.

In the girls’ division, the Bassett girls tennis team also made a strong statement in the Piedmont District tournament, securing a 5-1 win over G.W.-Danville. After claiming the PD regular season title, the Bengals received the No. 1 seed in the tournament and a bye in the quarterfinals. They will now face off against No. 2 seed Halifax County in the tournament finals on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in the Piedmont District softball tournament quarterfinals, the Magna Vista softball team edged out Bassett 12-11 in a thrilling matchup. The Warriors, seeded No. 4, will now prepare to take on No. 1 Mecklenburg County in the semifinals.

The action-packed tournament season continues to unfold, with teams gearing up for intense battles and aiming to secure their spots in the regional tournaments ahead.
