A new study of 2,000 U.S. adults has revealed that six in 10 Americans believe they can get all the exercise they need without ever setting foot inside a gym. The study, commissioned by Nature’s Bounty, a vitamin and probiotic brand, and conducted by OnePoll, found that the average person considers themselves active five times per week and exercises four times per week. Surprisingly, 54% of respondents admitted to never going to the gym.

Instead of hitting the gym, many Americans are finding ways to stay active through everyday tasks. The study showed that almost all respondents (98%) believe they can get a workout in while taking on daily activities. Some of the most popular tasks that were considered as exercise included walking around the neighborhood (74%), taking the stairs instead of an elevator or escalator (60%), doing yard work (59%), cleaning the home (59%), walking the dog (56%), and bringing groceries into the home (42%).

The study also highlighted the positive impact of these everyday activities on overall well-being. Seventy percent of respondents reported feeling healthy, with 10% even feeling like a superhero or professional athlete, and 17% feeling 10 years younger. Additionally, nearly half of the participants (48%) reflected on their physical activities from the previous week during the weekend, with 70% feeling impressed with their activity levels.

While most respondents were aware of their activity levels during the week, 65% expressed a willingness to push themselves further and explore their physical capabilities through exercise. Many believed that testing their physical limits could lead to benefits such as feeling more confident (54%), walking farther (52%), and noticing improvements in their physical appearance (46%).

The study also found a strong connection between diet and physical activity levels. More than a quarter of respondents (28%) believed that their diet had a major impact on their immune system, while 24% thought it significantly influenced their physical activity levels. Ninety percent of participants believed that their overall digestive health affected their physicality and immune system, with 63% stating they would likely use a probiotic supplement to support their digestive health.

Overall, the study emphasized the importance of incorporating everyday activities into a balanced lifestyle to improve overall health and well-being. By recognizing the benefits of simple tasks like walking, cleaning, and gardening, individuals can enhance their physical abilities and feel more empowered in their daily lives.
