Tourism Malaysia Unveils Strategic Roadmap for Visit Malaysia 2026

Tourism Malaysia kicked off its journey towards Visit Malaysia 2026 with a networking session in Kuala Lumpur, where industry players gathered to learn about the strategic direction and action plans. The goal is to attract 35.6 million tourists and generate RM147.1 billion in receipts by 2026.

The Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, outlined the core strategies of the VM 2026 roadmap, which include creating demand, increasing traffic, and prioritizing target markets. Key initiatives such as branding blitz, strategic partnerships, and market segmentation will drive the campaign.

In the first quarter of 2024, Malaysia saw a significant increase in foreign tourist arrivals, reaching 5.8 million, a 32.5% growth from the previous year. The top markets contributing to this success were Singapore, Indonesia, China, and more.

Tourism Malaysia plans to enhance its branding through aggressive advertising campaigns and strategic partnerships with airlines and online travel agents. Target markets are divided into tiers, with a focus on emerging markets like Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The agency will tailor tourism products for niche segments like nature-based, experiential, and medical tourism. Minister Tiong King Sing expressed confidence in achieving the VM 2026 targets through strategic collaborations.

Tourism Malaysia aims to position Malaysia as a preferred tourist destination by refining and executing the VM 2026 strategies. The upcoming Visit Malaysia Year in 2026 will celebrate the nation’s sustainable tourism industry, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
