The Division II district meet at Lakeview High School was filled with excitement and impressive performances as athletes from various schools punched their tickets to the regional round next week. Girard senior Mia Malito stole the show by winning three events – the high jump, long jump, and 300 hurdles. Malito’s determination and skill were on full display as she edged out her competitors in the 300 hurdles by a mere .03 seconds.

But Malito’s success wasn’t the only highlight of the day. Pymatuning Valley senior Rowen Jenkins also had a standout performance, winning the 100 hurdles and placing second in the 300 hurdles. Jenkins, who missed out on the regional round last year, is now eyeing a trip to Dayton with newfound confidence and personal bests under her belt.

Champion senior Kennady Grace dominated the discus event with a winning throw of 120-9, setting the tone for her journey to regionals. Grace, who found success at the state meet last year, is determined to improve and make her mark once again this year.

Dwayne Moody of Liberty had a busy day, competing in multiple events and securing his spot in the regional round. Despite the pressure and nerves, Moody remained focused and determined to represent his school with pride.

Lakeview junior Thomas Easton, who overcame illness and injury, showcased his resilience by competing in the 4×100 and 4×200 events. Despite missing the cut in the 100 and 200, Easton’s determination to help his team succeed at regionals is unwavering.

Overall, the district meet was a display of talent, perseverance, and determination as these athletes strive for success on the track. The road to the state meet is paved with challenges, but these athletes are ready to face them head-on and make their mark in the world of track and field.
