At 111 years old, John Alfred Tinniswood from England has become the world’s oldest person, taking the title after the passing of 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez. Tinniswood, who was born in 1912, the same year the Titanic sank, now resides in a retirement home in Southport, where he is known as a “big chatterbox” by the staff.

Despite his impressive age, Tinniswood remains sharp and independent, managing his own finances and staying up to date with current events through a radio. He credits his longevity to simple habits like not smoking, rarely drinking alcohol, and enjoying fish and chips every Friday.

Having worked in accounts for Shell and BP oil and gas company until his retirement in 1972, Tinniswood is also the oldest surviving male World War II veteran. His wife, Blodwen, passed away in 1986, but he continues to stay connected with his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Offering advice to younger generations, Tinniswood emphasizes the importance of giving your all in everything you do. “Always do the best you can, whether you’re learning something or whether you’re teaching someone,” he said. “Give it all you’ve got. Otherwise it’s not worth bothering with.”

As the world celebrates his remarkable milestone, Tinniswood’s story serves as an inspiration for all, proving that age is just a number when it comes to living a fulfilling and meaningful life.
