Reading Time: < 1 minute

Two French prison officers tragically lost their lives in an ambush on a prison van near Rouen in Normandy. The incident occurred as prisoner Mohamed Amra, also known as “The Fly,” was being transported from court to a prison. A car rammed into the prison van at a toll booth, followed by gunmen opening fire on the prison officers. Two officers were killed, and two others were critically injured in the attack.

The inmate who escaped during the ambush was identified as Mohamed Amra, a 30-year-old with ties to a gang in Marseille. Amra had been convicted of burglary and was facing charges for a kidnapping that resulted in a death. The ambush took place near a toll booth on the A154 motorway, with the attackers using heavy weapons against the officers.

French President Emmanuel Macron assured that every effort was being made to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime. A manhunt involving hundreds of police officers and gendarmes was launched to track down the individuals responsible for the attack.

Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti expressed his condolences for the fallen officers, emphasizing that those behind the attack would face justice. Roadblocks were set up across north-west France, with authorities following up on all leads to capture the suspects. The community mourns the loss of the officers and stands united in seeking justice for the victims of this senseless act of violence.
