Dubai Sports Sector Sees Phenomenal Growth Under Visionary Leadership

His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), has lauded the remarkable growth achieved by the sports sector in Dubai. In a recent meeting of the DSC’s Board of Directors, Sheikh Mansoor attributed this growth to the unwavering support, empowering directives, and visionary leadership of the government.

The positive impact of a supportive legislative framework, excellent living standards, and a growing interest in sports at various levels were highlighted by His Highness. This was evident in the 788 new work permits granted to agencies and companies in the sports sector. The increasing number of enterprises linked to sports, participation in events, and registered players at clubs all point towards a thriving sports ecosystem in Dubai.

Collaboration with the private sector has been a key driver of success for the DSC, with over 2.731 million participants engaged in events conducted by the Council. Notably, more than 200,000 students participated in school tournaments, and private sports organizations collaborated with the Council to host events that accounted for over 80% of the total share.

The influx of international talent to Dubai for world-class tournaments and events has been on the rise, with 106 tournaments involving international teams out of a total of 480 events organized. The focus on developing qualified and specialized individuals in the sports sector was also emphasized, with over 100 inmates from penal institutions completing training to play various roles.

Sheikh Mansoor urged clubs to identify and support talented individuals to enhance the efficiency of sports bodies and improve performance. He stressed the importance of continuous development and evaluation of goals against achievements to ensure sustained progress in the sports sector.

The meeting also recognized the achievements of Shabab Al Ahli Club and Al Ain Sports Club for their recent victories in football tournaments. Sheikh Mansoor reiterated the Council’s commitment to supporting athletes and providing opportunities for them to excel in their respective sports.

Looking ahead, the DSC is gearing up for a series of prestigious sporting events, including the ongoing Gulf Youth Games – UAE 2024, the Dubai Esports and Games Festival, and the annual Al Gaffal Dhow Sailing Race. These events, along with upcoming championships and festivals, underscore Dubai’s position as a hub for sports and athletic excellence.
