Telemundo Makes a Splash at NBCUniversal’s Upfront Week
NBCUniversal’s upfront week kicked off with a bang, featuring the trailer for the highly anticipated musical “Wicked,” appearances by Snoop Dogg, and even adorable penguins. However, it was Telemundo, the Spanish-language division of the network, that stole the show on Monday.
Telemundo’s presentation at The Shed’s McCourt space focused on its recent ratings victories over rival TelevisaUnivision, with not-so-subtle jabs at the competition. The new chairman, Luis Fernandez, emphasized Telemundo’s commitment to innovation and catering to the diverse Latino audience.
Cesar Conde, head of the NBCU News Group and Telemundo, highlighted the network’s unique position in creating content by and for Hispanics. Colombian artist Manuel Turizo performed, and Telemundo’s stars and hosts made appearances to introduce exciting new content.
The event also featured a comedic routine by “Saturday Night Live” star Marcello Hernandez, who humorously highlighted the cultural differences and strengths of the Latino community. The evening was a mix of entertainment, celebration, and a strong pitch to advertisers about the immense business opportunity in reaching the Latino market through Telemundo.
Conde emphasized Telemundo’s competitive advantage and its ability to reach the full spectrum of Latinos in America, making it a valuable platform for advertisers. The event was a showcase of Telemundo’s success and influence in the media landscape, solidifying its position as a powerhouse in the industry.
