Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene Clashes with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson Over Ukraine Funding

In a fiery exchange on Friday, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Speaker of the House Mike Johnson for his support of a legislative package that includes funding for Ukraine. Speaking on Steve Bannon’s show War Room, Ms. Greene expressed her disdain for the bill, stating that it made her “stomach flip over.”

“The American people are the ones writing the cheque and I absolutely hate everybody here doing this,” Ms. Greene said. “I mean I seriously hate them for doing this for the American people and paying for the murder and slaughter of the people in Ukraine.”

Ms. Greene, known for her far-right views, has been a vocal opponent of sending any funding to Ukraine. She previously filed a motion to vacate Mr. Johnson after the House passed a spending bill that included aid for Ukraine.

Her stance aligns with that of her close ally, former President Donald Trump, who has advocated for a more isolationist foreign policy approach. However, their views on Ukraine are at odds with the majority of Congress and Speaker Johnson’s efforts to pass the funding package.

The tension between Ms. Greene and Mr. Johnson may come to a head as they are set to meet on Friday to discuss “election integrity.” Ms. Greene advised Mr. Trump to focus on his campaign and upcoming trials, rather than being swayed by Mr. Johnson’s influence.

The possibility of a motion to vacate Mr. Johnson, similar to what happened to Kevin McCarthy last year, looms over the House. Democrats have indicated they would oppose such a motion to save Mr. Johnson, but only if he continues to support aid for Ukraine.

As the rift between Ms. Greene and Mr. Johnson deepens, the future of the legislative package and the House leadership remains uncertain.
