Marjorie Taylor Greene leaves everyone guessing on Mike Johnson’s motion to vacate

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) has been keeping everyone on their toes with her threats to oust Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.). Despite introducing the motion to vacate in March, Greene has yet to force a vote on the resolution, leaving many wondering about her intentions.

After a weeklong recess during which Greene intensified her threats against the Speaker, she was notably absent during the only House votes of the day, adding to the speculation surrounding her next move. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), one of the few supporters of Greene’s motion, has remained tight-lipped about the resolution’s fate.

While Greene’s team vehemently denies any suggestion of backing down, some members of Congress believe that the motion may never come to the floor, with the November elections looming. Rep. Eli Crane (R-Ariz.) expressed doubts about the timing and feasibility of a conservative coup against Johnson.

Despite the uncertainty, Greene continues to stoke anticipation, hinting at Johnson’s imminent departure as Speaker without providing a specific timeline. However, as time passes, Greene’s support appears to be dwindling, with some members expressing reservations about the potential fallout of a leadership change.

Johnson, on the other hand, remains unfazed by the threats, dismissing Greene’s efforts and maintaining his focus on his duties as Speaker. As the drama unfolds, the political landscape within the GOP remains tense, with the future of the Speaker’s position hanging in the balance.
