MANKATO–The community of Mankato is mourning the loss of a beloved figure, Mark Henry Schuck, who passed away on March 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on February 28, 1947, Mark was a well-known and respected member of the community, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and passion.
Mark’s journey began in Nicollet, MN, where he grew up as the eighth of nine children to Frank and Marie Schuck. He excelled in sports during his high school years at Nicollet High School, making history as the first athlete to place in a state championship in pole vaulting. His achievements on the football, basketball, and track and field teams were a source of pride for the entire community.
After graduating, Mark continued his athletic pursuits at Mankato State College, where he competed in cross country, basketball, and track and field. His passion for sports extended into his professional life as he became a teacher and coach, impacting the lives of countless students and athletes.
Throughout his career at Wilson Campus Lab School and Minnesota State University, Mark dedicated himself to mentoring and guiding young athletes, instilling in them a love for competition and sportsmanship. His coaching legacy was honored with inductions into the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame and receiving the Harold J. Fitterer Service Award.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Jane, and a loving father to their two children, Angie and Kelly. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, always encouraging them to pursue their passions and never give up.
In his memory, the community is invited to a visitation and Mass of Remembrance to celebrate Mark’s life and contributions. Donations to the Mark Schuck Legacy Endowment are also encouraged to support scholarships for future cross country and track and field athletes at Minnesota State University.
Mark’s legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the impact he made on the Mankato community. He will be remembered for his competitive spirit, his dedication to his family, and his unwavering commitment to helping others.
