White Plains senior Callum Markowitz secured the Section 1 boys single tennis championship title after a thrilling match against Mamaroneck’s Maxim Kalinin. The intense battle ended with Markowitz emerging victorious with a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. The victory not only earned Markowitz the title but also a ticket to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for the state singles tennis tournament.

Despite both players already securing a spot in the state tournament, the match was fiercely contested, with Markowitz displaying determination and skill to clinch the win. The White Plains standout expressed his desire to face adversity and be battle-tested before the state tournament, highlighting his commitment to improving his game.

On the doubles front, Scarsdale’s Jack Reis and Sam Saeed claimed the Section 1 boys doubles tennis championship title with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. The duo, who fell in the quarterfinals last year, showcased a more aggressive and confident approach this time, leading to their success.

Looking ahead to the state championships, both Markowitz and the Scarsdale doubles team are focused on making a strong impact. With the state tournament scheduled for May 31-June 2, these talented players are gearing up to face tough competition and aim for top honors on the grand stage. The excitement and anticipation for the upcoming state tournament are palpable as these athletes prepare to showcase their skills and compete for glory.
