The Marquette Sentinels boys basketball team celebrated a big win against Negaunee in the Victor’s Cup, and their victory was recognized with a resounding vote for Team of the Year by the UPSSA. The team, led by head coach Rich Ledy, narrowly missed out on the Coach of the Year title by just one vote.
The Sentinels’ impressive 20-4 overall record, including a perfect 8-0 mark in the Great Northern Conference, solidified their position as the top team in Divisions 1-2. Despite their success, Ledy fell short of winning the Coach of the Year award, with Dan Olkkonen of Kingsford taking the title.
Marquette’s journey to the top was not without challenges, as they faced tough competition in the postseason tournaments. The team’s performance against non-U.P. teams showcased their strength and determination, with notable wins against Alpena and Gaylord.
Ledy, in just his second season as head coach, has made a significant impact on the team’s success. His transition from coaching the Marquette girls basketball program to leading the boys team has been a rewarding experience, with the team’s performance reflecting his dedication and expertise.
Overall, the Sentinels’ remarkable season and Ledy’s leadership have set the stage for future success, as they continue to strive for excellence on the basketball court.
