Junior Kennedy Newsome set the tone early in the game by driving in two runs in the first inning, followed by another pair of runs in the third with a Maddy Hufford double. The Mustangs showcased their baserunning skills, taking advantage of wild pitches and passed balls to score six of their seven runs in pairs.
Pitcher Olivia Matheny had a standout performance with 12 strikeouts and even contributed an RBI at the plate. The team’s offense was led by Allie Ramsey, Newsome, and Hufford, each finishing with two RBIs.
Looking ahead to the regional final against Canton Central Catholic, Nicula emphasized the need for a more active offense with a focus on hitting line drives and avoiding flyballs. The team will need to bring their A-game against a strong offensive opponent like Canton Central Catholic.
