Mayo High School’s boys tennis team is gearing up for a rematch with top-ranked Wayzata after falling short in last year’s state championship. Led by senior Daniel Meunier, the Spartans are determined to avenge their loss and claim the title this time around.

Meunier, who has been a part of the Mayo varsity team for the past four years, reflects on the motivation that stemmed from their defeat last season. The team used that loss as fuel to push themselves harder during the off-season, participating in additional tournaments and training sessions to improve their skills.

Now boasting a perfect 9-0 record and ranked No. 2 in the state, Mayo is ready to face their toughest opponents yet. With a challenging schedule ahead, including a matchup against Wayzata, the Spartans are eager to prove themselves against the best in the state.

Coach Jeff Demaray is impressed by the team’s progress and believes they are even stronger than they were last year. With players like Meunier and standout senior Blake Thackeray leading the way, Mayo is poised for success as they strive for a state team championship.

As the season progresses, Meunier cherishes every moment spent with his teammates, embracing the camaraderie and shared goal of reaching the state tournament. With their eyes set on victory, the Spartans are determined to make this season one to remember.
