Mbappe scores two goals in victory over Lorient, but PSG’s title celebration postponed by Monaco’s win

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is on the brink of clinching their record-extending 12th French league title after a convincing 4-1 win over Lorient on Wednesday. However, celebrations were put on hold as second-place Monaco secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Lille later in the evening, keeping PSG’s champagne on ice for a few more days.

Kylian Mbappe was the star of the show, scoring twice and providing an assist in PSG’s dominant display. The French forward now leads the league’s scoring charts with 26 goals, further solidifying his reputation as one of the best strikers in the world.

Despite the delay in securing the title, PSG remains on course for a treble of trophies in Mbappe’s final season with the club. The team is set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semifinals and Lyon in the French Cup final next month.

In a match that pitted the league’s most prolific attack against the most porous defense, PSG winger Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring before Mbappe doubled the lead with a sublime finish. Dembele added a third goal before Mbappe sealed the win with a curling effort in the 90th minute.

With four games remaining, PSG can secure the title at home on Saturday against Le Havre. The team has only lost one league game this season, showcasing their dominance in French football.

Meanwhile, Monaco’s victory over Lille has put them six points clear in second place, edging closer to securing an automatic Champions League spot. Marseille’s hopes of European qualification took a hit after a 2-2 draw with Nice, with the team now five points off the last European spot.

The French league title race is heating up, with PSG looking to wrap up the championship in style in the coming days.
