MBR School of Government to host 2024 OECD Network of Schools of Government annual meeting in the UAE

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) recently hosted the 2024 annual meeting of the OECD Network of Schools of Government in Dubai, focusing on the theme of ‘Public Sector Transformation’. The event brought together policymakers, academics, and experts from 33 countries and 41 Schools of Government worldwide to discuss strategies for enhancing government institutions and talents.

Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, emphasized the need for governments to transform in order to meet new challenges. She highlighted the importance of boosting critical skills, streamlining processes, and deploying AI to drive innovation and efficiency in the public sector. Al Roumi also mentioned the UAE’s initiatives to empower government personnel with future skills and enhance future readiness in government entities.

The meeting addressed various aspects of public sector transformation, including workforce modernization, learning technologies, and strategies for promoting positive changes in work culture. It also focused on the role of innovation, artificial intelligence, and workforce development in shaping the future of government work.

HE Dr. Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of MBRSG, emphasized the importance of sharing best practices and strategies to drive positive transformations in the public sector. He highlighted the commitment of MBRSG and the OECD Network of Schools of Government to driving innovation in policy and public administration education.

The meeting featured sessions on ‘Leading Transformation’ and ‘Transforming Learning Systems’, where participants discussed strategic management, cultural changes, and the impact of AI and demographic shifts on the workforce. The sessions provided a platform for sharing methodologies, best practices, and challenges faced in educating and training in the public sector.

Nenshi, former Mayor of Calgary, shared his experiences in leading major transformations in the city that resulted in improved citizen satisfaction. The sessions also explored the importance of leadership vision, cultural change, and civil service reform in driving innovation and efficiency in public services.

Overall, the annual meeting provided a valuable opportunity for policymakers, academics, and experts to exchange successful strategies and best practices that benefit the public sector.
