McGill University Condemns Protest Outside Senior Administrator’s Home
McGill University has strongly condemned a protest that took place outside the home of one of its senior administrators on Sunday morning. The protest was organized by supporters of the pro-Palestinian encampment on the school’s downtown campus.
According to protest organizers, the university administration had ignored students’ calls for the school to divest from investments in companies linked to Israel. In response, the university issued a written statement denouncing the protest outside the administrator’s home.
In a video posted online, protesters can be seen using megaphones to chant outside the administrator’s home, accusing her of complicity in what they describe as a genocide and telling her that she “can’t hide.”
The protesters are demanding not only divestment from companies linked to Israel but also an academic boycott of Israeli institutions. They are also calling for the university to promise not to discipline any students for their involvement in pro-Palestinian protests.
Montreal police reported that the protesters gathered outside the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce home around 10:30 a.m. and dispersed peacefully around 1 p.m. Const. Caroline Chèvrefils stated that no arrests were made, and no property damage or vandalism occurred during the protest.
The university emphasized that while peaceful protests are acceptable, targeting individuals and their families at their residences crosses the line into intimidation and harassment. McGill University is committed to upholding the safety and well-being of all members of its community.
