Demolition Begins on Former McKinley School in Parkersburg

Demolition work has commenced on the former McKinley School located at 1130 19th St. in Parkersburg. The Astorg family, owners of Astorg Auto, purchased the school building at an auction in May 2021 for $165,000. After assessing the structural integrity of the building, the family decided to tear down a significant portion of it due to extensive deterioration.

The Astorg family has already invested approximately $200,000 into renovating the gym and cafeteria areas of the building. These renovated spaces will now serve as a foundation for a youth sports facility, which is currently home to the Parkersburg Cougar Wrestling club. The decision to preserve this part of the building ensures that the community will continue to benefit from the space for recreational activities.

Crews have begun the process of tearing down sections of the building, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the McKinley School property.
