Media leaders from Africa will convene in Nairobi in May

AllAfrica Global Media has responded to the urgent calls from media practitioners and stakeholders across Africa by announcing the launch of the AllAfrica Media Leaders’ Summit (AMLS). This new convening platform aims to address the challenges faced by the media industry in Africa and promote a free, independent, professional, and thriving media landscape on the continent.

The initiative comes after the successful African Media Leaders Forum (AMLF) held from 2008 to 2013, which brought together influential media leaders, journalists, editors, civil society organizations, and government officials. The AMLS is set to continue this legacy and provide a platform for over 250 top African media leaders, global media players, government officials, and other stakeholders to discuss the role of media in shaping Africa’s future.

With the adoption of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the rapid changes in the media landscape due to digitization and AI, the AMLS aims to address critical issues such as misinformation, governance, and sustainable business models. The summit will focus on six key pillars including African Economic Transformation, AI, Technology, and Digitization, Regional Integration, and Peacebuilding.

Scheduled to take place from the 8th to the 10th of May in Nairobi, the theme of the summit is “Re-engineering African Media in Times of Critical Transformation.” AllAfrica is committed to fostering dialogue and collaboration among media leaders to drive regional integration and economic progress in Africa, in alignment with the UN SDGs and Agenda 2063. This initiative is crucial in ensuring that the media industry plays a vital role in shaping Africa’s future.
