Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, will not be attending the Republican convention as an at-large delegate, his mother’s office announced. Despite being chosen as a delegate by the Florida Republican Party, Barron has declined to participate due to prior commitments, as reported by USA Today.
The 18-year-old high school senior would have served as one of Florida’s 41 at-large delegates, nominating his father as the Republican presidential candidate alongside his siblings at the event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, no specific reasons were given for his absence from the convention, which is set to take place between July 15 and 18.
Barron has largely stayed out of the political spotlight, unlike his older siblings who have been more involved in their father’s political endeavors. His decision not to attend the convention comes at a time when his father is facing a historic criminal trial, where he is accused of making hush money payments to Stormy Daniels to suppress stories about an alleged affair.
Despite Barron’s absence, the Trump family will still be represented at the convention by his siblings and other family members. Meanwhile, former President Trump is also planning to headline a political fundraiser on the same day he requested a break from court proceedings to attend Barron’s graduation ceremony, showcasing the family’s continued involvement in politics.
