Melissa Senior Breaks Boys Record, Lovejoy Duo Dominates Girls 3200

Logan Tauch, a senior at Melissa High School and a UNT signee, made headlines at the Class 5A meet in Arlington by setting a new record in the boys 3200 run. Tauch clocked in at an impressive 9:05.80, breaking the previous record of 9:12.22 set by Carter Blunt in 2015.

Tauch faced tough competition from Caden Gary of Lovejoy in the first half of the race but managed to pull ahead over the final four laps, securing his place in the record books.

The 6A Region I and 5A Region II meets, which were scheduled to conclude on Saturday at UTA, had to be postponed due to heavy rain and lightning. The events will now resume on Monday at 11 a.m.

Other standout performances included sophomore CJ Williams from Frisco Heritage, who dominated the field events by winning the shot put and placing second in the discus. Lovejoy’s Sara Morefield and Camryn Benson also shone, finishing first and second in the girls 3200.

Junior Ryhan Balous of McKinney North narrowly edged out Kimball’s Amauri Jackson in the girls long jump, while Mesquite Poteet’s Kchazney Beamon clinched victory in the high jump.

Freshman athletes also made their mark, with Forney’s Layla Paschall winning the pole vault and Red Oak’s Briana Davis placing second in the shot put.

The meet showcased the incredible talent and determination of these young athletes, setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
