Men’s Tennis Defeats (RV) Bethel, Advances to KCAC Tournament Championship Match on Saturday

In a thrilling match at the KCAC Tournament Semifinals, the Ottawa University men’s tennis team emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over (RV) Bethel, avenging their regular season loss. The match took place at the Genesis Health Club in Salina, Kan.

Ottawa started strong by taking a 1-0 lead in the doubles point. Santiago Tartaglia and Bernardo Figueiredo secured a 6-1 victory in the no. 3 doubles match. However, Bethel fought back and tied the doubles point 1-1 with a win in the no. 1 doubles match. Jhoel Quinonez and Jarmo Perez Wienese lost 6-3 in that match.

The singles matches were intense, with Ottawa tying the overall score at 2-2 after wins from Tartaglia, Quinonez, and Oscar Giorgio. Giorgio’s victory in the no. 4 singles match gave Ottawa a 3-2 lead. The match was clinched by Almog Cohen’s hard-fought win in the no. 6 singles match, securing the 4-2 victory for Ottawa.

With this win, Ottawa (14-7) advances to the KCAC Tournament Championship where they will face no. 18 McPherson College at the Dr. Emory Lindquist Tennis Center at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kan. The championship match will follow the women’s championship match, starting at 10:00 a.m.

The Ottawa University men’s tennis team displayed great determination and skill in their victory over Bethel, setting the stage for an exciting championship match against McPherson College.
