Denison University Men’s Tennis Team Clinches Fourth Consecutive NCAC Tournament Championship

GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 24, 2024) – The Denison University men’s tennis team secured their fourth consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship under the leadership of Head Coach David Schilling. The top-seeded and No. 9 nationally-ranked Big Red defeated second-seeded and No. 24-ranked Kenyon College with a score of 5-1 at the Denison Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.

In the notable results, the doubles pair of Ethan Green and Kael Shah dominated their match at No. 1 doubles, securing an 8-2 victory. Despite a tough battle at No. 3 doubles, Andy Mackler and Jacob Patterson pulled out an 8-7 tiebreak win, giving Denison a 2-1 lead after doubles. In singles play, Mackler, Patterson, and Ryan Patrick clinched the victory with impressive wins in their respective matches.

With this win, Denison improved to a 19-4 overall record and finished a perfect 10-0 against NCAC teams for the second consecutive season. The team is now eyeing a chance to host their regional rounds in the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament. On the other hand, Kenyon fell to a 14-8 overall record after losing to Denison in the NCAC Tournament Championship for the third straight season.

In the record books, Andy Mackler set a new program record for combined wins in a single season with a 57-5 record. The team now looks forward to the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship, where they have earned the NCAC’s automatic bid. The championship field will be announced on Monday, May 6, with the tournament set to begin on Saturday, May 11.
